Did you know Tangaroa Blue Organisation's Australian Debris Marine Initiative has removed 17 million pieces of debris from our coastlines since their conception in 2004? While an estimated 40,000 pieces of plastic float in every square kilometre of ocean, it is only when it washes ashore that most people get an idea of how much rubbish is actually floating in our oceans...and we can only imagine the impact that this has on marine life and seabirds.

 

Plastic in our oceans impacts sea turtles, whales, seabirds, fish, coral reefs, and countless other marine species and habitats. Sadly, scientists estimate that more than half of the world's sea turtles and nearly every seabird on Earth have eaten plastic in their lifetimes.
